At CARE Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer treatment using SkinPen, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device designed to target a variety of skin concerns.
- Activates the body’s natural healing process
- Produces new collagen and elastin
- Smooths skin texture and minimizes pore size
- Resurfaces acne scars
- Fades discoloration/dark spots
- Delicate areas too, like the under eyes for dark circles and fine lines
- Helps regulate your skin’s oil production
What is Microneedling and How Does it Work?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is an advanced facial rejuvenation treatment that improves signs of aging without surgical intervention. The SkinPen device is equipped with 14 tiny needles that puncture the skin’s surface and create controlled micro-channels or micro-injuries. These trigger the body’s healing process, kickstart new collagen and elastin production, and smooth texture while reducing pore size.

Why Is This Important?
Collagen is a protein naturally found in the human body that gives the skin elasticity and structure. Ever wonder why a baby’s face is so plump and squishy? The answer is collagen. The aging process, along with other external factors, slows collagen production, leading to sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. Microneedling can replenish lost collagen and rejuvenate skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
How is Microneedling Performed?

Your skin will be prepped with a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable during treatment. Once you are numb, the SkinPen will be passed over your skin, creating tiny puncture wounds on the surface. Throughout your microneedling treatment, the microchannels penetrate the skin, stimulating deep tissue regeneration and collagen growth.
Microneedling Enhancement Options
Microneedling can be performed on its own or enhanced with advanced add-on options for even greater results, including:
- Microneedling with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): PRP is derived from your own blood and is rich in growth factors that support healing and collagen stimulation. When applied after microneedling, PRP can enhance skin rejuvenation and recovery.
- Microneedling with ZO® Skin Health Serums: Medical-grade ZO serums can be infused into the skin during microneedling to target specific concerns such as pigmentation, fine lines, and overall skin quality.
Your provider will help determine which option is best for your skin during your consultation.
Top Benefits of Microneedling for Skin Rejuvenation
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that can be applied to the face, neck, and chest for comprehensive rejuvenation. The treatment offers a wide array of benefits for a variety of skin concerns, including:
- Stimulates collagen production and elastin synthesis
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines, large pores, and wrinkles
- Improves uneven skin texture, uneven skin tone, and dark spots
- Fades surgical scars, atrophic acne scars, and stretch marks
- Enhances overall skin tone and promotes a youthful glow
- Requires minimal recovery time with only mild redness and swelling
- Safe for all skin tones and types
- Safe for year-round use, through all seasons
Optimal Candidates for Microneedling
The best candidates are healthy adults without a history of bleeding problems, blood disorders, or an active acne outbreak. Microneedling can be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions, including fine lines and wrinkles, mild skin laxity, scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, rough skin texture, and dull skin tone. At your initial consultation, our providers will discuss your cosmetic goals and medical history with you to determine the best treatment plan.
Microneedling for Acne Scars, Fine Lines, and Uneven Skin Tone
Whether you’re struggling with atrophic acne scars, sun damage, or skin discoloration, this cosmetic procedure can dramatically improve the skin’s surface. Over the course of multiple treatments, your complexion becomes clearer, firmer, and more even-toned.
Is Microneedling Safe for All Skin Types?
One of the advantages of microneedling is that it’s safe for most skin types and skin colors, including darker skin tones that are often more prone to hyperpigmentation with other cosmetic treatments. Since the procedure is minimally invasive, there is a very low risk of adverse reactions, making it a suitable option for a wide range of patients.
Recovery from Microneedling

There is minimal downtime and recovery after treatment. Mild redness and tenderness in the treatment area are common, but you can return to almost all normal activities immediately. We recommend avoiding strenuous activity and sun exposure for a few days to minimize swelling, bruising, and irritation.
What to Expect After Your Microneedling Treatment
Following your microneedling treatment, you can expect gradual improvements as your skin begins to heal and regenerate. Mild redness or swelling may occur initially, but most patients notice a brighter, smoother complexion within the first week. Results will develop gradually as new collagen fibers develop and healthy skin cells are resurfaced. Amazing results can be seen after just one treatment, but a series of 3-5 treatments is typically recommended depending on your concerns and goals.
How Long Do Results from Microneedling Last?
The results of microneedling are long-lasting, especially with a series of multiple treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Depending on your individual skin concerns, your provider will recommend a personalized treatment plan. With proper skincare and maintenance, results can last 6 to 12 months or longer; 1-2 maintenance treatments are needed each year to maintain a healthy complexion and ongoing collagen building.
