With A Warm, Caring Staff and Stunningly Natural Results,
Our Approach to Surgery is Anything but Plastic
Most people get a little frightened when they hear the word “chemical peel.” However, the great thing most people do not know is that there are many different levels of peels, so there is one out there for everyone! At CARE Plastic Surgery, we carry many peels, including the Vitalize peel.
What is the SkinMedica Vitalize Peel?
The Vitalize Peel from SkinMedica is a safe chemical peel for all skin types. Formulated with lactic acid, salicylic acid, resorcinol, and retinoic acid, its goal is to address moderate skin imperfections, such as smoothing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and roughness. The peel also uses a solution to smooth skin texture and slough off the dead skin, which helps with acne and congestion, as well as acne scarring. By shedding the dead skin layers, new layers of skin emerge, and less hyperpigmentation is present on the surface of the skin. The Vitalize peel is associated with minimal downtime, so patients can return to their routines right away. While some patients may benefit from just one peel, others may require a series.
One of our patients documented her journey with the SkinMedica vitalize peel at our practice. Read on to learn more about her experience with this effective treatment option!
My Peel Experience
Today I received the Vitalize Peel from SkinMedica at Care Plastic Surgery! Upon arriving, I washed my face with a gentle cleanser and a cute little pink washcloth. Then, I was escorted to a room with comfy white chairs where they would take my Visia.
The Visia Machine is a skin analysis imaging system that takes images of your skin. It uses different angles to assess different skin conditions, such as texture, acne, pigmentation, and aging. I found out that my pigmentation is very minimal: Yay, Sunscreen!! However, I do have acne-prone skin with clogged pores, which is one of the reasons why I chose to book a chemical peel.
My aesthetician then took me to a relaxing room where she went over in detail what I might expect and what the outcome of my peel might be. She also asked if I had any questions or concerns. I loved that she took the time to make me feel at ease and answered all my questions. My main question at the time was, “How long would I peel for?” She let me know that most people start to peel 48-72 hours after receiving the treatment. And that peeling can last 2-5 days.
The Peel Treatment
During my treatment, my aesthetician recleaned my skin and put eye pads on my eyes so that the bright light she used to see the peel would not make me uncomfortable. She then used a prepping solution; this just got the skin ready for the actual chemical peel. My aesthetician then put a small layer of barrier around the areas she did not want a treat, such as the eyes, lips, and curves of the nose. These areas are sensitive to chemical peels and should not be treated over. I love that she started slowing by only doing one pass for my first treatment. For the Vitalize Peel, you can do 1-3 layers, but it is recommended that you do only one for the first time just to be sure your skin can tolerate it.
My aesthetician handed me a fan just in case the peel got a little “spicy.” Once the first layer is on, you sit for about 4 minutes and wait for the peel to self-neutralize. During the waiting period, my tingly sensation got to about a two (on a scale of one to ten) on most of my skin but a four in the areas where I have active acne. I was so thrilled that this peel was tolerable and that the whole process was comfortable.
After my four minutes were up, my aesthetician applied a retinol solution. The solution had a yellow tint, which made me nervous, but it soaked right into the skin! Once the retinol solution was applied, a warm feeling was present on my skin. I no longer felt the tingly sensation from the chemical peel, and everything was back to normal. My aesthetician then applied sunscreen, which did bring the “spicy” feeling back for about two minutes, and then it was over!
My aesthetician then went over the post-procedure care. It was all so simple to follow, which made the process much more worth it. I walked out looking like I had nothing done, which is great! I went back to my normal routine and went back to work the same day. It is recommended that anyone who gets the Vitalize Peel does a series of three, booked every 3-4 weeks, to achieve a noticeable improvement in their complexion. I am excited about my peel journey and even more excited about my results!
