Microneedling with PRP, also called collagen induction therapy, is an advanced facial rejuvenation treatment used to improve signs of aging and many other skin concerns. PRP (platelet rich plasma) contains stem cells and blood platelets that are rich in healing and growth factors. It is found in your own blood, making this a safe treatment for almost all patients.

At CARE Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer treatment using SkinPen; the first FDA-cleared microneedling device. This device is equipped with 14 tiny needles which are used to puncture the skin’s surface and create controlled micro-channels or micro-injuries. These trigger the body’s healing process and kickstart the production of new collagen and elastin, while also smoothing texture and reducing pore size.

Why is this important?

Collagen is a protein naturally found in the human body that gives the skin elasticity and structure. Ever wonder why a baby’s face is so plump and squishy? The answer is collagen. The aging process, along with other external factors, slows collagen production, leading to sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. Microneedling and PRP work together to replenish lost collagen and rejuvenate healthy, beautiful skin with a more youthful appearance.

How is Microneedling with PRP Performed?

Microneedling with PRP is a three-step procedure.

Step 1: We will collect a vile of blood through a simple blood draw in our office.

Step 2: Next, your blood will be spun in a centrifuge machine to separate the platelet-rich plasma from red blood cells and other blood components.

Step 3: Finally, you will receive your microneedling with PRP treatment from one of our medical aestheticians.

Your skin will be prepped with a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable during treatment. Once you are numb, the SkinPen will be passed over your skin, creating tiny puncture wounds on the surface.  Throughout your microneedling treatment, PRP will be applied to the skin and will help the SkinPen glide over your skin with ease. The microchannels created by the microneedling device will allow the PRP to penetrate more deeply into the skin, stimulating tissue regeneration and collagen growth at a deep level.

Optimal Candidates for Microneedling with PRP

The best candidates are healthy adults without a history of bleeding problems, blood disorders, or an active acne outbreak. Microneedling with PRP can be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions, including fine lines, wrinkles, mild skin laxity, acne scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, rough skin texture, and dull skin tone. At your initial consultation, our providers will discuss your cosmetic goals and medical history with you to determine the best treatment plan.

Recovery from Microneedling with PRP

There is minimal downtime and recovery after treatment. Mild redness and tenderness in the treatment area are common, but you can return to almost all normal activities immediately. We do recommend that you avoid strenuous activity and sun exposure for a few days to minimize swelling, bruising, and irritation. Results will develop gradually as new collagen fibers develop and healthy skin cells are resurfaced. Amazing results can be seen after just one treatment, but a series of 3 microneedling treatments scheduled 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
