What Are Injectables?

One of the most popular types of injectables are wrinkle-relaxing neuromodulators like Botox. Botox uses botulinum toxin A to temporarily paralyze and relax the muscles, preventing the formation of dynamic lines caused by repeated facial movements.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectables used to treat deeper wrinkles and restore volume loss. They are often made from hyaluronic acid or collagen-stimulating agents like calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) and poly-L-lactic acid. At CARE Plastic Surgery, we use the Juvéderm Collection of Fillers which are one of the most popular hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and there are a variety of options including Voluma and Vollure XC with varying consistencies for different areas of the face.

Where Can Injectables and Fillers be Used?

Eyes and Forehead

Horizontal forehead lines and frown lines between the brows are some of the first signs of aging. They develop because of repeated facial movements and can be worsened by sun exposure. Botox and Juvéderm are effective treatments for these types of wrinkles. Botox can also be used around the corners of the eyes to treat crow’s feet.

Cheeks

As the skin ages and becomes lax, the cheeks can become hollow and gaunt or take on a sagging appearance that makes people look and feel older than they are. Nasolabial folds that extend horizontally from the corners of the mouth to the sides of the nose are another common concern. Juvéderm Vollure XC or Voluma can plump the skin, fill in deep facial folds on the cheeks, and improve mild skin laxity.

Lips

Whether you were born with naturally thin lips, or your lips have started to thin with aging, you may benefit from Juvéderm lip fillers. These dermal fillers can also be injected into the corners of the mouth to lift downturned corners and injected above the lips to smooth perioral lines. What to Expect During an Injectable or Filler Appointment

Before your first treatment, you will receive a comprehensive consultation with your injector to discuss your aesthetic goals and develop a unique treatment plan. During your treatment, we will cleanse your skin and prepare it for treatment. Although most patients tolerate these injections with ease, we can apply a topical numbing cream for additional comfort throughout your procedure. You should plan on 15-20 minutes for a Botox treatment and 30-60 minutes for a filler treatment.

Injectable and Filler Results and Recovery

Injectables and fillers are popular because treatment is quick, minimally painful, and requires no downtime or recovery. The only recovery needed is for the mild swelling and bruising that may develop around the injection sites. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 1-2 days but swelling only takes a few days to go down. Botox lasts an average of 3-4 months while Juvéderm can last up to 2 years!
