Juvéderm for the Lips

Juvéderm injections can be used in or near the lips for a variety of purposes. The first option is to use injections to smooth perioral lines, also known as lipstick lines or smoker’s lines. By adding a small amount of volume below the skin, Juvéderm creates a more youthful appearance with reduced fine lines or wrinkles in the mouth area. In most cases, your injector will recommend Juvéderm Volbella XC for this purpose. Volbella XC is the thinnest formula within the Juvéderm family, making it a good choice for these delicate lines and high-movement areas.

Another popular reason to choose Juvéderm injections for the lips is to add additional volume. This can meet a patient’s aesthetic preferences or create a more symmetrical shape. Juvéderm for the lips can also be a good option for patients who see thinning lips due to age. Typically, Juvéderm Ultra XC or Ultra Plus XC are used for lip injections. These formulas have a slightly thicker consistency which offers the desired volume while still retaining a soft, natural look and feel.

Juvéderm for the Cheeks

Over time, the cheeks will gradually begin to lose volume. This is a natural part of the aging process which occurs as fat stores migrate lower in the face, with less fat stored in the cheeks and more collecting along the jawline, to the sides of the face, or below the chin. As a result, patients often see a hollow appearance as well as wrinkles and lines such as nasolabial folds.

Juvéderm Voluma XC is the most popular option for this area. Voluma is among the densest formulas of Juvéderm, making it a great option for the cheek area. It allows for long-lasting and durable volume which still looks natural.

Juvéderm for the Lower Face

There are several common signs of aging that patients may see in the lower face. This includes nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or poor definition in the chin or jawline.

Juvéderm Vollure XC is the preferred type of Juvéderm for this area. Vollure XC is flexible, making it a good choice for areas near the mouth that see frequent movement. The product also holds its form well, which makes it a good option for even more severe wrinkles or folds.

Results and Recovery: Comparing Types of Juvéderm

Regardless of the type of Juvéderm you receive, no downtime is required. You may, however, see redness or slight swelling at the injection site. In some cases, patients may also have some soreness or bruising. These side effects should resolve within a few days of your injections.

Each type of Juvéderm will last for a varying length of time. On average, you can expect the following:

  • Juvéderm Volbella XC: 12 months
  • Juvéderm Ultra XC: 6-12 months
  • Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC: 6-12 months
  • Juvéderm Voluma XC: Up to two years
  • Juvéderm Vollure XC: Up to 18 months
