Lip fillers are becoming more and more popular these days, and celebrities and everyday people alike are starting to be more open about having them done. Lip fillers are a simple, non-surgical way to temporarily enhance your lips, making them look fuller and plumper. You can even choose lip filler to make your lips look more symmetrical by strategically placing the product. If you’re deciding to have this done for the first time, you probably have a few questions about your first appointment! Here are some of the basics about a lip filler treatment.t.

Your First Lip Filler Appointment

There are a few steps all our patients go through during their first lip filler appointment. First, we’ll review your medical history to make sure you’re a good candidate. The procedure is safe for almost everyone, but there are a few things (like having an active infection or taking certain medications) that can disqualify you from having lip filler injections.

Next, you’ll discuss your cosmetic goals with your injector to make sure you’re on the same page and to choose the right plan for you. For this step, it’s helpful to bring along inspiration photos that look like the “after” you’re hoping for.

Once this is settled, the procedure begins. You’ll receive a numbing cream so the injections are comfortable, and your injector will measure and mark your lips to make sure the product is going into the right places. Then, it’s time to perform the injections. This whole process can typically be done in under an hour.

How to Choose the Right Lip Filler for You

There are a couple of options for your lip fillers. Most fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, which is produced naturally by the body and is very safe for injections. There are different brands that all have slightly different formulas. Your injector will help you choose a formula that will be best for your goals.

Caring for Your Lips After Injections

As far as cosmetic procedures go, lip injections are pretty low maintenance. It’s normal to experience swelling, and you can apply ice to your lips to help with this or any discomfort you’re feeling. It’s also important to avoid exercising for about 24 hours after receiving your injections.

Other than these two considerations, that’s it! You can return to normal activities, like work or school, right after your appointment if you choose. Any swelling or bruising that you experience should dissipate within a few days after your appointment. Lip injections aren’t permanent, but usually last for up to six months. If you want to keep up the look, you can schedule maintenance injections as your filler dissolves.
