Laser Hair Removal and Reduction Durham

If you live with unwanted hair, you’ve probably tried some of the typical solutions, such as shaving, waxing, and electrolysis.

  • Shaving can be a daily nuisance and leave you with stubble.
  • Waxing may work well as a short-term solution
  • Electrolysis is effective, but only treats one hair follicle at a time and may not be practical for large areas and is extremely time-consuming.

Our Durham facility is pleased to offer the latest in laser hair removal and reduction. The Gentle YAG safely removes and reduces unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. These systems are effective for most skin types. Facial, bikini, or underarm areas are usually completed in approximately ten minutes; legs, backs and larger areas can take longer times and may require additional treatments.

The advantages of laser hair removal at CARE are many compared to other methods of hair removal:

  • Non-invasive
  • Fewer treatments required
  • Reduction of ingrown hair
  • Suitable for large areas
  • Greater accuracy
  • Shorter courses of treatment

In our commitment to provide our patients with the most advanced and proven techniques in the field in the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill area, we now offer the ND-Yag laser for comfortable treatment of most skin types.

May I Receive Treatment if I Have a Suntan?

Since we adhere to the highest standards of your care and only treat if you have been out of the sun for six weeks before treatments. Your safety and highest quality results are above all the most important factors!

Is the Hair Removal or Reduction Permanent?

The term we like to use is Hair Reduction as some hair growth may appear after six to eight treatments. When hair grows back it will be thinner, lighter in color, and grow much slower rate than before. It is permanent hair reduction. Every person is different, but most experience a high level of permanent hair reduction. Maintenance sessions may be necessary in some cases.

How long does a treatment take?

The length of a laser session may range from a few minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. More than one treatment may be required to complete large areas of the body.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments required depends on the type of hair and the region being treated. This is due to the variation of the hair growth cycle in various regions of the body. Since your hair grow in intervals of three cycles, we recommend waiting four to eight weeks in between treatments until your desired result is achieved. Our goal is to target hair growth in the Anagen phase where hair growth is active and contains the most melanin. A precise cost and treatment estimate will be given at the initial consultation. Please contact us for more details.

What body areas can be treated?

Any area, except around the eyes. The upper lip, neck, underarms, bikini line, legs, chest, and back can all be treated.

Common Questions about Laser Hair Reduction/Laser Hair Removal

How will my treated area look after a treatment?

The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the treatment. Immediate after-effects are generally minor. Most people return to normal activity right away.

How does Laser Hair Removal or Laser Hair Reduction Work?

The laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle without disrupting the skin’s surface to remove hair on any part of the body. The final result is smooth and softer skin. The energy directed from the laser hand piece is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle, and the generated heat energy is designed to destroy the hair follicle which deters future re-growth. Our scientific approach to hair removal is safe for most skin types and targets hair colors that contain melanin.

Is this treatment effective for both men and women?

Yes

Is Laser Hair Removal or Reduction Painful?

At CARE we take extra measures to ensure a comfortable experience. There is some discomfort and many patients report that the treatment feels like a rubber band snap on the skin. Topical numbing lotion can be used for areas sensitive spots.

What is Laser Hair Removal or Reduction?

Our system offers a long term solution for reducing unwanted hair. The energy emitted by the laser is a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle, where it is then absorbed.

Is there any pre-treatment?

We require that your hair is not plucked, waxed, or use depilatory or have electrolysis in the areas you want to treat for six weeks prior to laser hair reduction. Additionally we require no tanning by sun for six weeks prior to treatment. Also avoid using self-tanning products for two weeks prior to treatment.

What post-treatment is necessary?

To achieve optimal results, we require our patients to use physical block sunscreen regularly during your laser treatment package and for six weeks after completion. We also require that you do not tan areas for two full weeks after treatment.
