When wrinkles and frown lines appear in the forehead or eyebrow area, a forehead lift (“brow lift”) can smooth out the skin. The forehead lift procedure provides a younger, fresher, and less worried appearance. The procedure can often be performed endoscopically through incisions hidden in the hair of your scalp. A brow lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial cosmetic procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid lift, or laser skin resurfacing. Recovery from a forehead lift requires a week off work. There may be bruising around the eyes for up to two weeks that can be covered with makeup.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a forehead lift or brow lift procedure?
A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, is a surgical procedure that lifts and smooths skin at the forehead and brow areas. Secondarily, it can address the appearance of “heaviness” noted at the upper eye lids.
Am I a suitable candidate for a forehead lift?
To determine if a patient is a candidate for a brow lift, we recommend scheduling a consultation with our double-board certified plastic surgeon. Consultation allows discussion about specific aesthetic goals and outcomes. Candidates typically have dropped in the brow area. It is important for patients to be generally healthy, have realistic expectations, and understand the procedure and limitations.
What techniques are commonly used for performing a forehead lift?
Dr.Coan typically uses an endoscopic technique. This includes the use of a small device to rejuvenate the forehead and brow area. He uses small, well-concealed incisions along the hairline.
What can I expect during the recovery period after a brow lift?
Patients can expect minimal pain and discomfort during early recovery. Most patients describe the sensation to be like a headache, if any discomfort at all. Other aspects of recovery may include, but are not limited to, mild bruising, swelling, and temporary sensation changes. We require patients to wear a facial compression garment for approximately 2 weeks after surgery to reduce swelling/bruising and minimize any complications.
How is a forehead lift different from a facelift?
A forehead lift, or brow lift, only addresses the upper portion of face (the brow and above). A forehead lift addresses heaviness above the eye caused by skin laxity and aging. A facelift addresses the lower third of the face, primarily the jawline. A facelift does not address the forehead. A facelift can address mild, moderate, and severe jowling. A facelift is very customizable and can be used in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures.
