Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a reconstructive procedure designed to reduce the size of the breasts and create a healthier breast shape and form. Large breasts can cause a pain of the breasts, back, shoulder, and neck. Some patients may experience problems with posture including shoulder grooves from bra straps or skin discomfort. The goal of the procedure is to first listen to your concerns and determine the optimal course for the procedure to achieve your health goals.
Breast reduction surgery removes excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue, resulting in smaller, lighter and firmer breasts that are better-shaped in proportion to the rest of the body. Predefined incisions are made on the breast, and excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue are removed. The nipple is then elevated to its new position on the breast mound, and the remaining tissues are closed around it. Some liposuction of adjacent areas may be performed at the same time to improve the shape of the new breast.
Most major insurance plans cover the breast reduction procedure when there is documented health history of back and neck pain along with attempts at pain medication, chiropractic, or massage therapy services.
